While virtual reality (VR) is becoming increasingly popular in consumer home entertainment, it is usually constrained to the rather limited living room area. But the excitement of free-roaming untethered VR that combines virtual environments with an open physical space to run around in can’t be matched. That’s the concept that Chilean-based software company InBattle is trying to promote by opening its new VR eSport facility at 2818 NW Fifth Ave, Wynwood, Miami.
InBattle’s new 5000-square-foot flagship facility also serves as the software company’s corporate headquarters, with around 3,000 square feet of installation reserved for an open-area VR arena for multiplayer competitive gaming using InBattle’s custom software.
The arena will host VR tournaments for any members of the public who book their space in the games. Participants will compete in two teams of four, over a 45-minute session, 30 minutes of which are spent in the virtual reality competition. Sessions are priced at $45 per person.
According to InBattle CEO Christobal Baixas, the high-tech VR experience combined with the freedom of movement offered by the large arena is intended to offer a completely new type of gaming opportunity, “a deeply immersive VR experience that will allow players to really feel they are inside the game, in the character’s skin, with all the adrenaline and excitement of a battle arena.”
The actual game offered by InBattle allows players to assume the roles of different characters, each with different appearances, strengths, vulnerabilities, and special skills.
Baixas founded InBattle in Chile, but the company relocated to Miami during the pandemic, attracted to its metropolitan culture and vibrant entertainment industry. From its new corporate HQ, InBattle intends to expand its presence in the US, setting up a network for VR arenas in more cities and a league system for local and national tournaments.
The community tools for InBattle’s platform will have tradable digital IPs based on digital assets such as cryptocurrencies and NFTs. Outside of the arena, the company will offer an application for home systems, allowing more players to participate.
